Presentation of the exhibition
“Dialogue”
Elena Kouma meets Erling Saatvedt
The exhibition “Dialogue” was centered on the concept of dialogue between two artists from different eras, the exhibition is structured around two thematic sections:
1. “The Crowd”
A visual exploration of contemporary global social issues such as refugees, migration, insecurity, and fear. Through masses of human heads evoking a moving, dark sea, the artist captures the psychological state of our time, placing particular emphasis on the gaze as a carrier of anxiety and tension.
2. “Dialogue on Two Levels”
A lyrical tribute to the power of nature and its ability to offer tranquility, harmony, and inner balance. This section investigates the dialectical relationship between the inner world of the human being and the external world, presented as a dynamic process of evolution and unity.
Elena Kouma’s works coexists with sculptures by Erling Saatvedt (1923-2000), an artist who left a strong mark on contemporary Norwegian sculpture. His works are part of the collections of the National Gallery of Norway, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, as well as numerous public spaces throughout Norway. Notable works included are The Flute Player (1964), Football Players (1962), Speed Skater Idol (1966), Boreas (1972), and Maritime Figuration (1975).
